The Vestry is made up of members who must meet these qualifications in order to be elected:
Members will serve three year terms on a rotating basis. The Rector of a Parish names a Senior Warden. The Vestry itself elects the Junior Warder and the Secretary or Clerk. The Vestry will also elect a Treasurer, who makes regular reports to the Vestry on the finances of the congregation. The Secretary (Clerk) and the Treasurer need not be members of the Vestry.
Acolytes
The acolytes are a service group at St Stephen's. The acolytes are individuals that help the Priest at the altar and assist during services and special celebrations. They are trained in all the practices and rituals of the church by the Acolyte Master. Serving as an acolyte is open to all from the age of 7 to 107 years of age. Craig Summer serves as the Acolyte Master at St Stephen's and has held this post for at least 25 years.
Altar Guild
The Altar Guild of Saint Stephen's is directed by Kay Vessels. The Guild is comprised of 5 teams with each team having from 1-3 or more members. The Guild is directly responsible for care of all the altar linens, vestments, brass and such. They prepare for each service held in the church or chapel.
Brotherhood of Saint Stephen's
The Brotherhood is also a service organization and each man in the Parish is considered a member of the Brotherhood. The men meet monthly on the second Wednesday in the Parish Hall. A brother(s) is responsible for the meal that is served and a small donation is asked from those attending. The donations are collected and as funds permit, needed items are purchased for the church. Also at each meeting there is usually a short program. The meetings begin at 6:30 pm.
Choir
The choir at Saint Stephen's is led by Katherine Yost. Katherine is always eager to add new voices to the choir and asks that those that are interested please come to the choir room just after each service.
Daughters of the King
The Daughters of the King is an Order for women that is active at Saint Stephen's. There are chapters in the Episcopal Church, Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. The vision of the daughters is to know Jesus Christ, to make Him known to others and to become reflections of God's love throughout the world. It is a lay order for women who are communicants of the churches listed and undertake to make prayer and service to the church an integral part of their lives. The Daughters pledge themselves to a life long program of prayer, service and evangelism.
Flower Guild
The ministry of the flower guild is to assist in beautifying our worship space with floral arrangements, always giving consideration to the seasons of the church and the types of services. In addition, the flower guild promotes fellowship of its members by working together and participating in educational opportunities.
If you are interested in serving with this dynamic ministry, please contact Deb Montgomery.
Lay Readers, Ushers, Chalice Ministers
Chalice Ministers, Readers and Ushers are a very important part of the service. Each Chalice Minister helps the Priest at the altar and will help with serving communion at Sunday services. The servers are trained by the Priest and any member of the Episcopal Church in good standing is eligible to be trained and to help serve at the altar.
Lay Readers are responsible for reading the Old and New Testament lessons at each service. And any member of the church can be a Lay Reader.
Ushers help at each service in passing out the Order of Service as folks enter the church, take the offering and help count the collection after each service.
Craig Summer is the contact person for each of the above areas of service.
Saint Stephen's Own Shepherds
The SOS group meets on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (except during the summer months) in the Parish Hall for a brown bag luncheon. The group meets at 12:15 pm. The on-going purpose is to keep in personal contact with members slowed by age or illness. The regular activities are telephone calls, cards, visits, occasional meals or flowers. Please contact Frances Neidhardt for more information.
